The garden hosts two annual celebrations of Japanese culture, plus occasional volunteer workdays and special programs. Events are confirmed 4 to 6 weeks in advance through our Facebook page and local media.
Japanese Spring Festival
Typically first Sunday of May
An afternoon of traditional Japanese culture: tea ceremony, classical dance, Taiko drumming by Daikin's Taiko Force, martial arts demonstrations, calligraphy, origami, and Japanese foods. The festival has been held annually since 1992.
$10 per vehicle (replaces normal park entrance fee).
Autumn Celebration
October (date varies)
Koto music, picnics, children's activities, and the garden's best fall color. Japanese maples and native plants light up the mountainside.

Join us for the 23rd Annual Japanese Spring Festival at the North Alabama Japanese Garden. The garden’s azaleas should be in bloom.
What to expect:
- Traditional Japanese tea ceremony at the Tea House
- Taiko drumming by Daikin’s Taiko Force
- Martial arts demonstrations (karate, kendo)
- Calligraphy and origami for all ages
- Japanese dance
- Japanese food vendors
Admission: $10 per vehicle (replaces normal park entrance fee).
Parking: Near the Monte Sano Lodge. Arrive early for best parking.
